CBC Main Tournament Rules

Note: recent rule changes are shown in red.

US PGA Rules

With the exception of any of the following rules that may contradict US PGA rules, US PGA rules apply.

Handicaps

Your CBC Handicap Index is based on an average of the best 4 of your 10 most recent scores in the CBC Handicap system.

Players that compete in CBC with less than 10 scorecards in the system are at a distinct disadvantage!

So if you don’t have 10 scorecards in the system, you MUST submit scorecards for ALL CBC practice rounds and non-CBC rounds until you do.

For newbies that don’t play much golf, a minimum of 3 score cards must be submitted. Scorecards must indicate date, Course name, Course rating & slope, which tees were played and hole by hole unadjusted scores. Failure to submit sufficient scorecards will result in a ZERO handicap. All scorecards must be submitted to Larry at least one day prior to the tournament so they can be input into the CBC handicap system and posted to the CBC website.

Tee Selection

Any player may play any tees on any given day, as long as the request is made by the night prior to the day the round is played. If no requests are made, Gold tees must be played.

Mulligans

Mulligans are allowed on the 1st tee box of each 18-hole round and must be played if taken.

Lost / Out of Bounds / Hazard

Any ball that is either lost, out of bounds or in a hazard may be dropped with a 1 stroke penalty EITHER

  • within 2 club lengths of where it went out of bounds or entered the hazard, OR
  • anywhere along its line of flight as long as it is no closer to the hole.

Max Score

The maximum Gross score that can be recorded on any hole is Double Par.

Lifting Ball

Balls can be lifted, cleaned and rolled anywhere, including the fairway, fringe, rough or green, even a hazard (anywhere but a bunker) and as long as doing so does not provide any additional advantage other than avoiding damage to a club.

A plugged ball can be lifted, cleaned and dropped anywhere except in a hazard. If a ball is close enough to a root, paved cart path or any unmovable man-made obstacle that the club will hit it, the ball can be dropped away from the obstacle a minimum distance to avoid hitting it without improving your stance or line for your next shot. Washouts are considered “Ground under repair”.

Gimmies

Gimmie puts are only allowed if the ball is clearly and entirely inside the No Cap mark on your putter as witnessed and agreed upon by at least one other member of the group.

Speed of Play

  • Ready Golf: Do not hold up the group. Whoever is ready first should go ahead and shoot.
  • If your tee shot looks lost, and your best option is to re-tee, a provisional 3rd shot should be taken from the tee box immediately. If first shot is found (and deemed playable), it is played, otherwise, the provisional 3rd shot is played.
  • You are allowed no longer than 3 Minutes to look for a lost ball.
  • Any ball hit into water on a par 3 without crossing land first may be either re-teed at the same tee or dropped at the Teal tee, with a 1 stroke penalty in either case. (Cambrian Ridge ONLY)
  • Any ball hit into the canyon on holes 9 or 18 MUST be dropped laterally from where it landed within 2 club lengths of the hazard with a 1 stroke penalty. Do NOT look for your ball! (Cambrian Ridge ONLY)
  • If you are taking longer than the others in your group to setup and hit/putt, you are too slow. Don’t be the one that causes the ranger to tell us to skip a hole to keep pace… unless you just want to be blackballed.

Tie Breakers

In the event of a tie for first place, and if time allows, there will be a sudden death playoff with handicaps being used. The executive committee will determine which holes are to be played. Otherwise, ties will be broken by using higher precision HCP index.

In the event of a tie for first place for the PinSeeker CTP trophy, sum of distances will be used if available, otherwise, there will be a playoff.

Not Sure

If you are not sure what the rule is at any time, don’t guess. Refer to rules on CBC website and if still unsure, ask your group. If no one in your group knows for sure what the rule is, then the decision is left up to a group vote.
